President Donald Trump will take part in a nationwide Bible reading tonight as part of a multi-day public reading of scripture in Washington.

Trump’s roughly two-and-a-half-minute reading, which is slated to air Tuesday, comes after he angered many Christians with a social media post that appeared to depict him as Jesus and publicly quarreled with Pope Leo.

After that, he threatened to wipe out “a whole civilization” in what would have been at best a war crime and at worst a genocide. Regardless of whether the cease-fire holds, we have crossed a scary threshold in American life.
